As a freshman in high school, I was that nigga when it came to new Hip Hop music. I've always been, and still am, an early pioneer type with everything that I touch, but please keep in mind that, as far as music goes, this was prior to Napster or any download sites homie - all that I had was my contact with Stretch Armstrong & Bobbito @ WKCR and a keen eye for "sampler" tapes floating around in bargain bins @ "mom & pop" record stores around NYC. I also had my cousin Courtney who felt just like me and he is actually the person who procured this rare tape for me.
This shit blew my adolescent mind. I'm not even gonna front, the Craig Mack side got play like once ... ever ... it was truly all about the late great Biggie Smalls yo.
Why don't labels do samplers anymore? I guess that, in effect, mixtapes are the new samplers and labels aint gotta pay for them. I seem to have answered my own question ... lol.
Anyway, I still have shitty, yet valuable, copies of both the original "Ready To Die" album and "Life After Death" before the sample clearances. Get @ me when you need that exclusive shit Diddy ... lol.
The tape featured here today has the original version of "Me & My Bitch" on it though - that's a jewel right there for Y.O.U. homie. As my readership continues to grow, I'ma post some real rare joints for yall ... stay tuned. Son, I've got Nike and Timberland boxes full of Maxell and TDK tapes literally begging to be dusted off for the public. Holla @ ya boy in BK!
