Tonight's Ralph Lauren Polo 4-D Spectaculor On New York's Madison Avenue = Sensory OverLOad!

"Witness the ultimate collision of fashion, art, and technology.” “Be prepared to see Madison Avenue in a whole new light.” The invite to RalphLauren.com’s tenth anniversary celebration tomorrow night makes big promises. David Lauren, son of Ralph and Polo Ralph Lauren’s senior vice president of advertising, marketing, and corporate communications, had even more during a preview of the event he gave Style.com: “It’s not just game-changing, it’s life-changing.”

So what exactly is the “it” he’s talking about? Come 8 p.m. on Wednesday, two lanes of Madison Avenue will be shut down to traffic and filled with spectators (not just the fashion set; it’s open to the public as well). There, they’ll be treated to a 4-D experience in which the new Ralph Lauren women’s flagship will sway, turn into fabric, collapse, and reappear before the walls retract and a virtual runway complete with models materializes. In addition, giant neckties (a nod to the first product Ralph Lauren ever designed) will spill from the roof, but the coup de grâce will come when members of Prince Charles’ polo team break through the building’s facade and charge down the street. As for the 4 in 4-D, that would be the real Big Pony fragrance that’s going to spray from the virtual perfume bottles spinning over the crowd’s heads. “It’s like the movie Inception come to life,” David promises.

CHRIS LIVE AKA SHAKER SAYS: Much has been made of the importance of establishing and maintaining a strong online shopping presence in today's ever evolving new media age.

Yes, as evidenced by last week's release of the Prada Fall/Winter 2010/2011 Fantasy Motionbook short film, even celebrated luxury couturiers face the pressing existential conundrum of how to remain tastefully true to the heritage of their storied firms while simultaneously attempting to take the lead in merchandising innovation. Indeed, striking a balance between art and commerce can be quite the tortured tango.

To that end, few, if any, brands have recognized and continue to proactively respond to this 21st century reality better than Ralph Lauren Polo. Just when Y.O.U. thought that Jackass 3-D was the be all, end all, tonight, Ralph Lauren will launch a futuristic 4-D spectacle of sight and sound AND scent (NOTE: Ralph Lauren's signature "Big Pony" fragrance will be benevolently spritzed upon onlookers from on high) to celebrate 10 years in the online shopping game and lay to rest any doubts of the company's ambitious commitment to the fusion of high end fashion and technology.

At 8:00 PM, the facade of the brand new Ralph Lauren Polo Mansion flagship store (NOTE: The original Polo Mansion, the Rhinelander Mansion, is now strictly menswear. The new mansion, located directly across the street, has been appropriated for chic chicks) on New York City's ritzy Madison Avenue will be transformed into a 22,000-square-foot, 4-story high screen for this breathtaking presentation.

Models will frolic, vintage cars will wind down country roads and polo players will dab their W.A.S.P.y brows after a spirited match and last chukka has come to close - all images of which that are intended to sell Y.O.U. the romance of the Ralph lauren lifestyle as much as the actual garments themselves. Basically, Ralph Lauren and, more specifically his son, senior vice president of advertising, marketing and corporate communications and the visionary behind this brilliant event, David Lauren, GETS IT! Whether we're talking about music or fashion or anything else for that matter, the name of the game is consumer engagement and lifestyle marketing. Watch and learn.

So, who's gonna join me underneath the stars on Madison Avenue tonight, huh? Go for the show and stay for the clothes ... lol. Cheers!

Helloooooo Ladies: The Chopard Cascade Perfume = The Scent Of A Rich Woman.

Information Courtesy Of: Sybarites.Org

CHRIS LIVE AKA SHAKER SAYS: When approaching a woman, her looks may indeed be the initial hook, however, few things are as instantly captivating and memorable as her scent.

As a child, I scoured my father's closet and O.D.'ed on all kinds of musk colognes giving me what, in retrospect, I would imagine to be the scent of a man who was in an all out brawl on the 1st floor of Macy's Herald Square and had been suplexed straight through a fragrance counter! LOL. In my teens, the fellas sported either Fahrenheit, Cool Water or the grand champion of Brooklyn's Fulton Street copped-it-for-the-low-low-from-some-Indian-guy fragrances Versace Blue Jeans. Oh yeah, the fly shorties spritzed on the good Versace Pink Jeans for women and we all mingled in our own little "Versace Heaven". Word to B.I.G.!

Anyway, that spectacular nostalgic lead in was only meant to highlight my original point: The importance of palatable scents andd the enchanting role that they play in the attraction game. That having been said, Livestyle Ladies please allow me to play online matchmaker and introduce Y.O.U. to Chopard Cascade Perfume. Chopard Cascade Perfume please meet my ladies.

Everybody knows how I feel about luxury labels that, inexplicably, wander outside of their dedicated design lanes to experiment with the manufacture of products that they heretofore have not been associated with - I don't like it. However, if anybody can achieve success in a non-traditional market, it would be Chopard. This brilliant brand has dominated the watch, jewelry and accessories market for well over 100 years, so, the addition of a decadent perfume that deifies the dashing damsel that is the quintessential Chopard customer makes perfect sense.

Infused with a primary note of the pantropical white blossom nocturnal Belle de Nuit flower and accompanied by a medley of equally delightful secondary extracts, the Chopard Cascade Perfume should not disappoint. I mean, with all of this damn rain, @ least Y.O.U. can smell like a "Mid-Summer Night's Dream" even if this weather aint really up to par ... lol. Smell ya later!

BONUS:

Ahhhhhhhhh, this is a rare treat! Though not my intention @ the outset, as I typed away, this entry began to flourish into a true rhetorical reference Tour de Force. I could go with my allusion to William Shakespeare's romantic comedy masterpiece "A Mid-Summer Night's Dream", but, if Y.O.U. don't know about that man's work by now, this is neither the time nor the place for me to play college professor ... lol.

No, my Brooklyn bias convinces me that, in the interest of continuing your better refinement, I must recognize the "Versace Heaven" line which I lifted Jay-Z style (I keed. I keed.) directly from the Notorious B.I.G. classic tale of torrid late night creeping "A Story To Tell". How lucky are Y.O.U. to receive an education that encompasses everything worth knowing from La Dolce Vita to Biggie Smalls? Very lucky. You're welcome. You're ALL welcome!

Donatella Versace Says, "Fuck Your Recession" x Releases Her Pièce De Résistance Perfume.

"The mention of Versace is enough to get the idea of the product that could be mentioned which without doubt belongs to the upper crust. And Donatella Versace is never one to skimp on excess. Known for famously stating “more is more,” the designer has just created what appears to be one of the world’s most luxury perfumes. Despite the threat of a worldwide recession Donatella’s new fragrance will retail at $2,100.

The 3.4-oz. bottle of the perfume is covered with hand-stitched white leather and it comes in a leather box with silver and gold details. Both the sheath and the box bear metal plates bear the words “Gianni Versace Couture”, in tribute to Donatella’s brother. The formula boasts citrus accents of bergamot and mandarin blended with red berries and tangerines. There’s a floral feel too with jasmine, heliotrope and almond blossom tones. The base is muskier as Tonka bean is combined with patchouli heart and sandalwood. If the ingredients themselves are heavenly singly, what fragrance would be of their infusion?

In order to give the the pricey eau de parfum something of a limited edition feeling, it won’t be widely available, just a 100 pieces. Although there are plans for more to be created upon request. It will be launched in November in Europe and in the US in December."

CHRIS LIVE AKA SHAKER SAYS: Your Versace "Blue Jeans" (for him) or "Pink Jeans" (for her) this is not! LOL. In accordance with other laissez faire proponents, spritzing in the face of current conventional financial wisdom, Donatella Versace is set to release this overture of fragrant opulence that is Gianni Versace Couture.

Said to be infused with all kinds of "smell goods", this luxuriously packaged perfume could smell like to warrant a $2,100 price tag. Hey, if the recession is just a story that Y.O.U. hear about on the news - Y.O.U. know, the type of shit that only happens to "other people" - then this perfume is right up your alley. Put it in the air.

Polo Modern Reserve Cologne = This Flow Is No Joke Ma, It's Strictly For Adults.

"Ralph Lauren, the master of making classics current, is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Polo fragrance by twisting his own traditions. Polo Modern Reserve, out this month, is crafted in the essence of the original like a special vintage. Though where the Polo you knew growing up was a gentile blend, the 2008 version is a bit heartier with notes of crisp herbs, leather and wood. Like breathing in the sweet scent of a humidor. The reinterpretation is supposed to connect with today's male—sons of the original Polo fans. Seems like a smart plan. After all, heritage is the name of the game in menswear right now. Shouldn't the same be for men's cologne? $62.50, @ Sephora. $200 for limited numbered edition, @ select department stores."

CHRIS LIVE AKA SHAKER SAYS: If you've been reading this blog @ all, you already know that Ralph "Lipschitz" Lauren is my guy ... point, blank, period. Be that as it may, he is buggin' with the $4,000 price tag for his new fragrance entitled "Love". Nothing smells that good.
