Granted, this can prove to be a bit difficult, particularly when the watch in question is as dazzlingly distracting as the Piaget Dancer Exceptional Piece. This latest haute horological achievement for Piaget represents the next evolutionary step for the "Dancer Collection" which has continued to excite and impress watch connoisseurs since the introduction of the series waaaaaaaaaaaay back in 1986.

At 1st glance, one might come for the diamonds (NOTE: Of which there are almost 1,230!), however, anyone who has a pesky yet overwhelmingly rewarding tenant named Mr. OR Mrs. "Intellectual Curiosity" dwelling in their head will undoubtedly stick around and fall in L.O.V.E. with the seductive substance of this watch. The Brand New IWC Portuguese Sidérale Scafusia = Obrigado Opulência! (Translation: Thank Y.O.U. Oppulence!)

"This is the most complex IWC ever made - it took ten years to develop - and it is awesome. The front of the Portuguese Sidérale Scafusia features the solar time, the sidereal time (both can be set independently), power reserve and a very large tourbillon as seconds display. The sidereal time (a true 24 hour scale) is immensely accurate - deviating by just 11.5 seconds per year! And, this isn't just any tourbillon, it's a true constant force tourbillon, "which compensates for the continuous depletion of energy in the barrels and transmits a steady trickle of energy to the balance. Two barrels aligned in parallel guarantee a minimum of two days’ constant power. All this time, the seconds hand mounted on the titanium cage of the tourbillon advances in one-second intervals."

The horizon is engraved in yellow and is completely customizable to the client's location, so that the calculation of the angle on the horizon will be accurate. IWC will then machine the cams which control the sunrise and sunset to display correctly for that client. Essentially, each owner of the Portuguese Sidérale Scafusia will be at the center of his own astronomical universe. The caseback also features a polarized filter that makes the watch appear grey by day and blue by night.

And, IWC being IWC, they made this highly complicated watch to be worn every single day. It is water resistant to 3 bars and shockingly shock-proof (according to IWC, of course). The case size is 46mm (this is a really complicated watch, 46mm makes sense), and each piece is customizable by the client in terms of case material (red gold or platinum), dial color, strap color / material (NATO, anyone?) and of course, horizon.

To that end, it is my great pleasure to introduce Y.O.U. to the IWC Portuguese Sidérale Scafusia.

The result of 10 years of extensive brow furrowing research is an immaculate instrument that takes the always popular Portuguese model and unites solar time (NOTE: Solar time is just a reckoning of the passage of time based on the Sun's position in the sky. "For half a million dollars you can get a lot of watches or this lovely new high jewelry watch from Swiss Girard-Perregaux. The Cat's Eye Tourbillon Haute Joaillerie timepiece has an 18k white gold case and is 32mm wide by 38mm tall in the typical Cat's Eye oval shape. It has a stunning amount of large diamonds all over it. According to Girard-Perregaux the watch required over 700 hours of work to create, containing over 20 carats of diamonds. "Vacheron Constantin released an Overseas Perpetual Calendar Chronograph. This is the first ‘high complications’ in the Overseas collection and immediately a superb looking one. Sporty, complicated and sophisticated.

The Overseas is Vacheron Constantin’s ‘sporty’ collection and up till now existed of three versions, the ‘normal’ Overseas (time and date), the Overseas Dual Time (well, the name explains the complication) and the Overseas Chronograph featuring a big date. The Breguet Marine Tourbillon Ref. 5839 High Jewellery Chronograph Watch = Semper FLY!

"In the watch world diamonds seem to make just about everything better. This Ref. 5839 Marine Tourbillon High Jewellery watch is a diamond encrusted version of the Ref. 5937 from a few years ago. Breguet outfitted the watch case and dial with an impressive amount of diamonds, but still was able to retain that signature Breguet Marine watch look.

The 43mm wide 18k white gold case as about 11.77 carats of stones on it. One of the neatest parts is how Breguet was able to maintain the coined edge of the case using specially cut diamonds. Also not the unique pattern the diamonds create for the bezel. On the dial smaller diamonds are set in the middle of the dial and don't overshadow the hands. The dial itself is silvered 18k gold. Overall Breguet did a great job giving a men's jewelry watch a functional face.

Inside the watch is a Breguet caliber 554.4 manually wound tourbillon movement with the time and a chronograph complication. The watch has 50 hours of power reserve with special features that include a silicium balance spring and escapement wheel."

As we have discussed @ length here @ Livestyle, simulated diamonds birthed from chemistry labs have taken the jewelry world by storm, much to the dismay of purists like myself. Additionally, even natural diamonds - especially when plastered recklessly across a watch - can make for a gauche show of perceived riches. Indeed, a balance between fancy and function can be hard to strike. The Brand New Piaget Altiplano Full Pave Dial Watch For 2011 = I've Got Something Very Nice Up My French Cuffed Sleeve.

"For a truly elegant watch you can always rely on the Piaget Altiplano. It looks good on both men and women, and comes in a variety of styles - each in a thin, round case. For 2011 the Altiplano gets a full pave (diamond covered) dial with matching diamond covered bezel. The diamonds are brilliant-cut and applied in a concentric circle pattern. Depending on the model, the pieces will have between 574-735 diamonds on them.

What are the two versions? Piaget offers the Altiplano Pave Dial watch in a 34mm wide or 38mm wide 18k gold case. The 34mm wide version is clearly a women's model, while the 38mm wide version is for either men or women. There are so many diamonds on the dial that the sheer level of the sparkle is almost distracting! Piaget even had to apply their logo on the bottom of the sapphire crystal as there was no room on the bejeweled face. Still, the dials are legible thanks to the white gold baton style hour markers and dauphine hour and minute hand. The design offers a pleasing mix of jewelry and minimalism.

There are more diamonds on the buckle of the white or black alligator strap. As is the case with all Altiplano watches, this one is very thin. The Piaget made caliber 430P manually wound movement is just 2.1mm thick, and the case is not that much thicker. Showy, but still elegant, the Piaget Altiplano Pave Dial watch is a great item for special occasions or when you are try to be less than subtle on a first date."

The Breitling Chronospace Automatic Watch For 2011 = Above The Crowds x The Clouds.

"Last year saw Breitling release the new large-sized Chronospace models equipped with Swiss Superquartz multi-function movements. That same 46mm wide steel watch will now come in an automatic chronograph form with a Brietling calibre 23 (base ETA) COSC Chronometer certified movement. Not bad looking, the Chronospace does feel a bit "Breitling Generic." As though most of the features could be found on other models. Most iconic for the collection are its large size, applied square style hour markers and bezel style.

The watch dial does have a rotating slide rule complication, and is seen here with the optional mesh metal bracelet. The case is rather easy to read thanks to the large hands and a lot of SuperLumiNova luminant. The case is water resistant to 200 meters and has a sapphire crystal. Dial colors include blue, black, gray, and silver. While not extremely original, this watch will fill a spot in the collection that needs to be filled by non Brietling for Bentley large sized timepieces. With chronograph and three-hand variants available, Piaget has designed a Polo FortyFive model with an in-house made perpetual calendar automatic movement.

With an impressive level of symmetry, the dial displays the time, retrograde date, retrograde day of the week, month, power reserve indicator for the movement, time with subsidiary seconds, second timezone, leap-year indicator, and a clever moon phase indicator. All on the dial that is is a few shades of black with while and rose gold.

The 45mm wide case is in titanium with 18k rose gold accents. More 18k rose gold is used on the dial for the hands and some dial rings. At first glance the watch looks a bit like a complex chronograph but actually has an impressive level of features in it. A very utilitarian touch that I appreciate is labeled inset pushers on the side of the case. Perpetual calendar watches often have pin pushers on the side of the case to adjust the calendar functions. Piaget thoughtfully opted to label them to make adjusting the watch less burdensome."

CHRIS LIVE AKA SHAKER SAYS: In Hip Hop circles where exaggerated decadence is often the prevailing topic of the day, it is beyond me how the Piaget name remains a relative no-show in contemporary lyrics. Strict traditionalists, Blancpain has never produced watches with quartz movements OR a digital display. Watch enthusiasts have rewarded Blancpain's diligence with their papered up patronage and, now, Blancpain wishes to return the favor with the grand gesture that is the limited edition Blancpain "Fifty Fathoms" Flyback Chronograph Complete Calendar.

The art deco style motif on the dial feels like an abstract cityscape to me. The buildings emanating from the tourbillon in the center. More diamonds decorate the ring around the tourbillon aperture, in addition to other places on the dial. CHRIS LIVE AKA SHAKER SAYS: It is not unreasonable for one to ask aloud just how such a storied horological firm as Vacheron Constantin could have their timing so off with their latest realease. I mean, these guys are in the watch business, right? Right. Alas, the master craftsmen @ the House Of Vacheron Constantin have never purported themselves to be anymore than magnificent manipulators of the finest Swiss movements and complications ... forgive them if they could not foresee the collapse of Greece's economy through their narrow, magnified jewelers loops.

In an event so steeped in international irony that it is almost a cruel joke, Vacheron Constantin has just unveiled their beautiful limited edition Overseas Chronograph for Greece. Never mind that 99% of the people in Greece today cannot afford such a luxury, this collector's watch (limited to a mere 100 pieces) is doper than Amy Winehouse's last piss test!

Originally introduced in 1996, the Overseas Chronograph series, in all of it's incarnations, has quickly become a symbol of excellence for these proud bearers of their signature Maltese Cross.

Although visibly composed of typical robust Vacheron Constantin design elements, the 42 mm steel cased Overseas Chronograph for Greece with it's dark blue guilloché engraved dial and matching blue rubber and blue crocodile straps can still make for a durable day-to-day watch (NOTE: As long as Y.O.U. don't do manual labor for a living. CHRIS LIVE AKA SHAKER SAYS: I have never claimed to be a know it all. In fact, Livestyle serves as the last refuge for the urban and urbane intellectually curious - I happen to learn much by simply assembling these stellar posts for your viewing pleasure. My latest revelatory experience of refinement occurred recently whilst cruising around the still brimming with excitement renewed streets of New York City with my big homie/business partner and fellow entrepreneur, China. As a former jeweler specializing in prestige watches he is my go-to guy concerning all high end horological matters and he just put me on to the discontinued Limited Edition Tudor "Tiger Woods" Prince-Date Chronograph Watch.

Astute readers will notice that, today, Tiger Woods is sponsored by TAG Heuer - this relatively rare watch pre-dates that collaboration. Now, for the uninitiated, it is important that Y.O.U. learn about the Tudor watch brand. Although the Tudor watch name is little known outside of exceptional collector's circles and, to my encyclopedic Hip Hop knowledge, has never been dropped in a ballerific song, this storied company sits right next to Rolex on the board of prized watches.

Following his success with Rolex, Hans Wilsdorf launched the Tudor brand in 1946 and the rest is timekeeping history. On the real, quiet as kept, Tudor is basically a Rolex watch; they share the same parts and movements. Ralph Lauren Polo has the unfortunate and damn near worthless CHAPS brand and, well, that's a b-a-d comparison because Tudor watches are valuable and, in some cases, even command higher prices than their popular Rolex brethren.

Anyway, before he won a gang of Masters tournaments, filled his closet with an arsenal of green jackets and stuck his wang in a few too many chicks, Tiger Woods hit the links with Tudor. Originally ringing @ the registers for something in the neighborhood of $600, pieces from this out of production series regularly command $2,000 and better on the open market.

Ignorance is a friend to no one, do NOT let the fact that Tudor aint a poppin' name or that prices for their instruments don't top out @ dizzying financial heights prevent Y.O.U. from appreciating this legendary brand. The Brand New Rolex Explorer Watch For 2010 = Dip, Dip, Dive x Socialize Like A Socialite!

"Big news this year here at Basel from Rolex. Most people are impressed by the new Rolex Submariner watches in all steel, but Rolex has also updated its popular Explorer model. The classic adventure watch has been upped to 39mm wide in steel, and features a slightly new dial. The case now comes in a better steel, which is grade 904L steel (most chemical and corrosion resistant). The dial has been ever so slightly updated. Newer hour markers and larger hands are most apparent.

The Rolex in-house made calibre 3132 movement is rock-solid and is COSC Chronometer certified. The watch has a sapphire crystal of course and is water resistant to 100 meters. Character of the watch is similar to the Submariner - but it is thinner, opts for a polished bezel instead of a rotating diver's bezel, and has a different style dial.
