CHRIS LIVE AKA SHAKER SAYS: Ok Livestyle boys and girls, time for a RANT. Very few things infuriate me on a marginal level more than the misuse or, in this case, the accepted mispronunciation of an actual word.
Now, while I abhor the common colloquial language crutch that "swagger" has become, @ the end of the day it is a real word. I can deal with that. What truly sticks in my craw is the irritating and inexplicable popularity of this imaginary word "gwop". Ummmmmm, are we talking about green U.nited S.tates currency? Yes we are - so, would it be unreasonable to assume that what sheeple should ideally be saying is "guac" as in the delicious Mexican Avocado green dip guacamole? No, it would not. Money has long been casually referred to as guacamole because it is green - much like some people call cash "lettuce".
The online Urban Dictionary defines the irresponsible word "gwop" as "A slang term for currency that exists among street level hoods. Generally. many small bills folded together to give the appearance of a larger amount of money than it usually is" - still wrong, but, sensible in it's explanation nonetheless. Now, the 3rd alternative definition for today's make believe word is really fun, check out this doosey: "money; derived from George Washington on Paper". Whaaaaaaaaat!? So, "gwop" is actually "G.W.O.P." - a high minded acronym for G.eorge W.ashinton O.n P.aper? Word? Really? I doubt it. Nothing about the indiscriminate abuse of this word convinces me that there was some complex associative reasoning applied during the creation of this drivel. "G.W.O.P." seems like it was composed as a complete afterthought.
Ahhhhhhhhhhh, I can already anticipate the naysayers whom might point to other choice slang for money such as, but, obviously not limited to gems like "bread", "chips", "scrilla", "cheese" and Lil Wayne's favorite young "moola" babyyyyyyyyyyyy as evidence that "gwop" may indeed be correct. LOL! All great and appropriate examples, however, I would simply counter such rebuttals with the assertion that because "guacamole" has already been in use and well established as slang for money long ago, that the term "gwop" is actually the aborted fetus of an attempt @ word shortening gone terribly wrong.
With that, it is the official Livestyle decree that "guac" is indeed the true and correct usage of the abridged version of the word "guacamole". No more "gwop". Please make a note of it.
