"DQM released two interesting silhouettes from VANS Vault today: the Mid Skool ’77, and the Priz Laced. The ’77 has a decidedly old school feel, with a wrinkled leather upper and colorways straight out of the 1970′s. And while turning to a vintage aesthetic for inspiration is nothing new, Vans shows it has the decades of experience to do it right. The Priz Laced, while less “vintage,” is a timeless classic. It’s a slightly more constructed shoe than it’s counterparts, like the Classic or Era, but maintains the simplicity that is a core strength of Vans. The Priz combines a gum rubber sole, with a bone white canvas upper, finished off by brass eyelets, round laces, and a tonal Vans tag. Both great Summer options, and both available from DQM."

CHRIS LIVE AKA SHAKER SAYS: It's funny, although I L.O.V.E. the minimalistic classicism of Converse Chuck Taylor sneakers (NOTE: I own several pairs; from your basic version to their latest collaboration with Commes des Garcons.), I really can't fuck with Vans®. Their flat-footed emptiness just seems too unsupportive of my ankles in much the same way that a jealous, self-absorbed girlfriend can be passively unenthusiastic and dismissive of your greatest hopes and dreams. Smh. Look @ me slipping into pathetically needy emo-hyperbole.
And, therein lies my 2nd problem with Vans sneakers in 2011: When I think of Vans® today, I view this venerable brand through the smudged looking glass of a traumatized man beset by nightmarish images of Trendoid hipster douche bags happily running amuck in filthy pairs of Vans® with mangled laces. They've ruined it for me ... or so I thought. Whilst NOT entirely recovered from recent fashion horrors, my faith in this company has been somewhat restored with the release of the Vans® Vault Mid Skool ‘77 and the Priz Laced.
Sure, the mid-top model in this short range retail missile look a whole H-E-Double-Hockey-Sticks of a lot like Nike Blazers, but I'ma let that slide. The gum rubber soles and decidedly more well constructed calfskin kicks in this vintage inspired series take a sturdy step into the future without sacrificing any of the harmonious integrity associated with this storied skateboard brand. Good shit!
