CHRIS LIVE AKA SHAKER SAYS: Never let it be said that Chris Live AKA Shaker is not a family man. I take immense pride in having created a platform in Livestyle which allows me to trumpet my beliefs on what constitutes the best that this inspirational and aspirational lifestyle has to offer. Such pride increases 10 fold when I have the opportunity to introduce Y.O.U. to the works of my brothers and sisters in arms who wage a daily war against Trendoid forces and their ongoing "Wack Attack" assault upon all that is hood. Case In Point: PUSH! Montana. Longtime readers will no doubt remember his name, but this is about so much more than name recognition. This is about art ... in this case, conveyed through the medium of powerful music.

Listen, I get it. As Hip Hop matures, people my age (and, sometimes even younger) have stopped being able to relate to a large segment of our culture that, ironically much like the Republican Party, is strongly anti-intellectual and gleefully pro-ignorance. At the other end of the spectrum, the success that was built on the back of the trap has been abandoned by most mainstream media types in favor of "flavor of the month" pseudo-new age rap gurus who equate sappy emotions and tight clothing with some kind of Avant Garde progressiveness. I can't fuck with none of them clid-downs ... real niggas meet me in the middle of the road. I don't deal in extremes, I deal exclusively in quality and truth is the only currency accepted here. The homie PUSH! and I both know (NOTE: And have had lengthy conversations regarding this fact) that, sadly, too many of today's Hip Hop fans have the attention span of a mosquito. In light of that, PUSH! has decided to take it back to the E.xtended P.lay format (THINK: Old school cass-singles and sampler tapes ... lol) to parcel out his latest dope material.

With his newest offering, "The 5 Heartbeats", PUSH! Montana manages to continue to excel @ providing the listener with graphic lyrics that, while intricately detailed, are not overly complicated or clumsy. This is most assuredly NOT your run of the mill shaved-down-Tone®-soap-sold-as "Crack Rap". In the beats department, this bold Brooklyn bearer of the Black Flag wisely chose to enlist the services of such up-and-coming beatsmiths as Chase N Cashe and Rico Beats whom, alongside the E.P.'s other contributors, give this project a lush soundscape that compliments PUSH! Montana's pensive prose.

As thoughtful as he is "thug", this labor of bulletproof L.O.V.E. is right on time for Valentine's Day weekend. Message To PUSH! Montana: Get money son! LOL. Good shit!
